21Q+ INTERVIEW WITH TEANNA KAI (part two)
[Teanna at Gold Club Centerfolds, April 2004]
Teanna Kai Interview
Interview date 04.24.04, Rancho Cordova, CA,
Gold Club Centerfolds
[continued from part one]
Snowman: OK ... ahhhh. Well I know you are a Penthouse Pet. What was it like shooting for Penthouse? I mean, that a pretty professional magazine and I'm sure they had a top notch photographer and so forth. How was it?
Teanna: Oh yeah, definitely. Ummmm ... well there's two magazines that I want to be one, which is Playboy and then Penthouse.
Snowman: Right.
Teanna: At the time when Penthouse accepted me, I was in the in the process of interviewing with Playboy. And I was ... I got a little pressure from Penthouse. Like they said they wanted to shoot me right away, so either I accept it or don't accept it.
Snowman: Now, if you shoot for one, can you not shoot for the other?
Teanna: Yeah .... Playboy ... I'd rather shoot Playboy first. Playboy's like ... they're very strict. If you do Penthouse, then you can't shoot for Playboy.
Snowman: Ohhhhh. OK.
Teanna: You got to do Playboy first and then Penthouse. So I mean, by the time I accepted Penthouse, which is Playboy, they said, oh well it's too late.
Snowman: Now long long did that shoot for Penthouse take?
Teanna: Depends who the photographer is. That photographer that I had, that's shooting me, he's very professional, he's really, really good. Ummmm it take about two days.
Snowman: Wow! That's even longer than I thought.
Teanna: Yeah. Two day shoot.
Snowman: So two full working days?
Teanna: Yeah. Two full working days, twelve hours.
Snowman: Wow. That's incredible. But you know, everybody on the Internet really loved ... I mean, the ones that they talked about the most, was the boy/girl pictorial from last ... October or ... is that what it was? I guess --
Teanna: Penthouse one?
Snowman: They said October. No April. Well, a boy/girl one pictorial.
Teanna: That just came out. Uh-huh. That just came out this month.
Snowman: Is there one in October too?
Teanna: That one is ... I think that one is not a Penthouse. I think that one's the Hustler.
Snowman: Oh, that ... you know, you're right. There is a Hustler one too. A lot of people were talking about that one.
Teanna: It's the same person that I'm doing it.
Snowman: Oh, it's the same photographer?
Teanna: No, not same photographer. Same model ... the male model ... the same guy.
Snowman: Are you having a relationship with that guy? Is he a special person?
Teanna: (*surprised*) Yeaaaahh. Like I said, I would not do boy/girls unless it's my boyfriend or my husband.
Snowman: Well I did read, that on the net, but I didn't want to assume it was true!
Teanna: That was the summer, I was seeing him for awhile. That's the one reason I would do boy/girls with him.
Snowman: Well everybody seemed to like that one.
Teanna: Yeah. It was ... I think it's a good lay out. It was good.
Snowman: Which is harder for you, to shoot still photography like for Penthouse or to do a video?
Teanna: I would say, video's easier.
Snowman: What would make it harder to shoot for Penthouse?
Teanna: Well, like I said, depend on the photographer. The one that I have, he's really, really good and ...
Snowman: Do you remember who his name was?
Teanna: Carl Watter
Snowman: Carl Watter - OK
Teanna: Carl Watcher. It's like W-A-T-C-H .. oh wait! W-A-C-H-T-E-R
Snowman: OK, I'll try to find some of his stuff on the web.
Teanna: Actually he have a website too. He has a cool website. It shows all his work and stuff like that. Shooting for Penthouse ... he's very particular. Like, certain angle I look like Asian, certain angle I look like white mix ...
Snowman: (*unsure*) OK ...
Teanna: He's the only one that knows! If he seems something good in front of the camera, he'll make me stand there for like, awhile until ... he's say "Don't move!" And then towards the end of the shoot, I was all like stiff, and hurting, pain everywhere. So it's pretty tough. I think at one point I almost cry because I was holding too long. I got like a cramp.
Snowman: Right, I can understand.
Teanna: But I think video's a lot easier.
Snowman: Who shot you for Hustler?
Teanna: Ahhhh what's his name? Lorent or something.
Snowman: Not Clive McLean or James Baas?
Teanna: No, Lorent, Lorent something.
Snowman: I'm not familiar with him, but like I said, it went over well. Now I saw something in your diary on your website, you did something for Iguana Films? But, it didn't mention what the movie was or you said it might be on late night cable. Did you ever find out? Whatever happened to that?
Teanna: Uh Huh! I've seen it on Cinemax a couple times on late night.
Snowman: What's it called?
Teanna: It's called, Hotel Erotica, or something like that. Isn't it? (*looks toward personal assistant)
Snowman: (*speaking to assistant*) The movie on Cinemax for Blue Iguana?
Teanna: Blue Hotel?
Snowman: For Blue Iguana?
Teanna's Assistant: It was Blue Hotel. Well no, Blue Hotel was the production piece. It is called Hotel Erotica.
Teanna: Yeah. Hotel Erotica 9 or something like that?
Teanna's Assistant: Yeah. That was ... ahhhh she was in episode two of that. That was a series.
Snowman: Episode two - OK.
Teanna's Assistant: Yeah and she was in another series called Thrills.
Snowman: Thrills? What is that? Is that a Cinemax product?
Teanna: That's on Cinemax.
Teanna's Assistant: Yes, that's a Cinemax product also. I don't know if that [IAFD] filmography ... it probably doesn't have stuff she did for Indiglo and ... Sexual Magic.
Snowman: Well, that's why I wanted to cover some of that. I'm pretty sure your fans, you know, when you're a real big fan of a girl, you try to see everything, so I bet they're interested in these two.
Teanna's Assistant: What was the other one? (*speaking to Teanna*) There was another one ... Hollywood .... Secrets? Or Hollywood ...
Snowman: Hollywood Secrets.
Teanna's Assistant: There was two or three she did for Playboy Productions ... you could have got them in Blockbuster.
Snowman: Oh, OK. I didn't realize that.
Teanna: I've done a lot of Playboy Late Night. It's all stimulating stuff. Like ... boy/girls, girl/girls -- simulating. Like late night shows. And I did a lot of Cinemax. The one that you just mentioned, the what is it called? -- Iguana Films? -- I did that. It was on Cinemax not too long ago -- maybe a couple months ago?
Teanna's Assistant: Yeah. The Iguana is the Sexual Magic.
Snowman: Sexual Magic?
Teanna's Assistant: No ... Ah ...
Teanna: That's the Playboy!
Teanna's Assistant: I realize that, but the Iguana Films is the company that distributes them. So, we could say a "division" of Playboy. I'm almost positive of that.
Snowman: OK. Is that something you'd like to do more of. More of the softcore, cable stuff?
Teanna: Hmmmm. I don't really care for it. They don't pay that much. (*laughs*)
Snowman: (*laughs*) Actually, I'm surprised to hear that. Wouldn't that pay more than a porn movie? I mean I know how much porn movies generally pay.
Teanna: Porn movies, they pay better than Playboy!
Snowman: Really?
Teanna: Playboy is like a big production and they don't pay nothing! They pay nothing to talent?
Snowman: Really? Hmmmm
Teanna: They pay nothing!
Snowman: That's surprising. Because I didn't think that girl/girl scenes generally, from what I know don't ... you know, they're not that much. They're usually between $800-1500 for porn. [Note - actually that was a mistake, that's the normal pay range for a boy/girl scene! Eek!]
Teanna's Assistant: Well it depends on who you are.
Teanna: Yeah.
Snowman: You can get more than that?
Teanna: I can get around there ... just girl/girls. But I know a lot of girls that does boy/girls get the same amount if I was doing girl/girl.
Snowman: Sure. So you're saying Playboy actually pays you less?
Teanna: Pays less than that to all, doesn't matter who it is!
Snowman: That's amazing. That's actually shocking.
Teanna: Well what was it ..... oh yeah ... they pay you very little, and then they make you stand there all day. One time I was working for Playboy. I was supposed to do simulating stuff and I was there from 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it was 6 o'clock the next morning, they didn't even shoot me yet OK!? OK?
Snowman: That next morning ... all night?
Teanna: Yeah! 4 O'clock, like now, until like, 4 O'clock the next morning.
Snowman: And you're just standing there at a studio waiting?
Teanna: Waiting! They didn't even shoot my scene! And you know what I do --
Snowman: You end up earning like $5.00 an hour!
Teanna: Yeah! I end up walking out! I did not stay.
Snowman: Who can blame you?
Teanna: And after that, they ask me to do more stuff and I said no. You know I get scared. I said "no, that's alright, I don't wanna do it." And they don't pay nothing.
Snowman: Well ...
Teanna: I hope Playboy doesn't hear this. (*laughs*)
Snowman: Well, maybe they should hear it. I mean, because I don't think that that's reasonable. So ...
Teanna: I think Playboy ... if somebody wants to get into action, you know mainstream stuff, maybe that might be good for them you know, but if you just wanna like to do it to just make money or whatever, then that's not the case.
Snowman: Do you have an ongoing relationship with Penthouse as far as other projects and appearances or signings?
Teanna: Ahhhh. I don't know what's going on with Penthouse but ever since I did my layout, and ah, they are kinda a little shady, hmmmm like they call me up and say they want me to do the videos, like you know, all the Penthouse Pet videos? And then they call and like cancel a couple times and then after that, I just get turned off. I just didn't want to do anything with it. So ...
Snowman: OK. Now, I thought I'd ask you some questions about dancing. And I read that ... this is from your diary, that you started doing feature dancing in June of 2003?
Teanna: Yeah.
Snowman: So, not quite a year. Did you dance before that just at clubs? Just as a regular girl?
Teanna: No. I have never danced before. I thought about it before, but I just don't like the thought of like go out there and ask a guy, you know, "Do you want lap dances?" and they ... I don't ... I can't stand the rejection. (*laughs*) I don't wanna go out there and ask the guys like, "Do you want to get lap dances?" and we have to be rubbing the guys and be nice to them and stuff and the say "That's OK honey, no thanks." And I'm like ...OK .... next guy!
Snowman: But that might just be because they are cheap, not because they don't like you!
Teanna: Yeah. I just don't wanna take that chance. It's just like .. you know... so I never like dance. I mean, I've gone to a club, I've seen girls do it, and it's like, "God, it's gotta be hard to do that!" I have to give them an A+ for that.
Snowman: Do you have any kind of background in dance? Like, did you ever take it in school or college or anything?
Teanna: No, in school I was a cheerleader. That's about it. I'm not a good dancer.
Snowman: Well I don't know ...
Teanna: I don't think so.
Snowman: You might be?
Teanna: If you were comparing me with some other house girls, there's no comparison. I can't dance like those girls. Those girls can climb the pole. They can do the trick and stuff. I can't do any of that stuff. I just go on stage and just be myself, look sexy, you know. And sometimes when I go out there, you know what I do is like, I just pretend like I'm doing ... like there's a camera in front of me, and they're filming me and I'm doing like a soft porn videos. That's what I on stage, I just stand there and pretend there's a little camera there and do a little ... (*demonstrates a little sexy move*).
Snowman: Well that's probably a good strategy. You have a lot of experience with that.
Teanna: (*laughs*) That's what I do.
Snowman: So then, how did you prepare to be a feature dancer? How did you learn to dance?
Teanna: How did I prepare it? Well, I ummmm ... I thought to myself ... I said, "You know what, I really don't wanna do girl/girls movie like I used to anymore, like a lot of them. And I'm at the point where I wanna build up myself, like my reputation and credits, but I have enough credit to where I can be a feature girls and ... then one day I just said, you know what, I'm ready -- I want to feature. So I got all my musics together. I pick out what I want to do, like what kind of act I want to put together so I have at least ten act together. I put all the costumes together. All the musics together. Make sure the ... what do you call it ... the chore?
Snowman: The choreography?
Teanna: Choreography. Make sure that all the routine goes together, the music go together.
Snowman: So each ... so you have ten complete shows, I mean with different outfits and music?
Teanna: Yeah, but there's like, some of my favorites that I do it all the time.
Snowman: What's your favorite one?
Teanna: Ummmm. I like the werewolf. I started out, that one I did it for Halloween.
Snowman: Oh, that's the scary one you wrote about on your diary.
Teanna: Yeah, the werewolf.
Snowman: OK.
Teanna: I did that for Halloween and then I started to like it and people, I see that people respond to it really good, so I kept it. I do it pretty often now on my set and stuff. And the other one ...
Snowman: Now what does your costume look like with the werewolf?
Teanna: Oh, without the werewolf when I take him off?
Snowman: Well I don't know. I haven't seen it.
Teanna: Well the werewolf, I have you know, the werewolf, like Thriller, you know like Michael Jackson.
Snowman: So it's an actual outfit of a werewolf?
Teanna: Yeah. The mask, the hands and stuff. You know, it's the werewolf. And then underneath it, I have like, more like a ... what you call it? -- fetish? Kinda like a fetish thing. Bondage.
Snowman: Like leather?
Teanna: Yeah ... latex. It's pretty cool.
Snowman: Yeah, I love that stuff. (*laughs*)
Teanna: Yeah. And I have the wedding thing, the wedding, the whole bride thing. So I did that. That's one of my favorite too.
Snowman: Now what music goes with each of those? With the werewolf and the bride.
Teanna: The werewolf is Thriller comes out, and then that songs over and I took off the mask and the costume and underneath is a bondage thing. Then there's a song called ummmm ...
Teanna's Assistant: LA Rocks
Teanna: Yeah. LA Rocks something. It's like (*sings*) "I just got off from the plane from LA. Take a look at me! A real good look at me." Or something like that. It's really cool! I can't explain it. You have to watch my show.
Snowman: (*laughs*) OK
Teanna: And then ummm ... for the wedding one I did a Like a Virgin ...
Snowman: Madonna?
Teanna: First it was like a marching, like a wedding march. I'd throw a bouquet out to the audience. Whoever would catch it would get a free videos.
Snowman: I thought they get married?!
Teanna: (*laughs*) No - they don't get married! And then I took the veil off and then I have like Like a Virgin and take the skirt off and there's like this see through skirt and stuff. It's really cool and then after that, I took that off -- the skirt and the gloves and then there's like a song from Billy Idol. It's called ummmm ...
Snowman: White Wedding.
Teanna: White Wedding. Right. That's awesome. I like that one too.
Snowman: I remember that.
Teanna: That one's cool.
Snowman: From the Rebel Yell years.
Teanna: Yeah.
Snowman: You're too young for that aren't you? You don't remember that stuff.
Teanna: What?
Snowman: Well you --
Teanna: I love the 80's music!
[Three popular 80's CDs that Teanna uses in her live shows as a feature dancer: Billy Idol, Madonna & Michael Jackson]
Snowman: Yeah. But when that was a hit, you must have been about uh ... five or six years old.
Teanna's Assistant: (*says something funny about remembering a bald guy*)
Snowman: (*laughs*)
Teanna: Oh I love the 80's!
Snowman: Well how do you choose your outfits?
Teanna: For what features? How do I choose it? Ummmm ...
Snowman: Because, you talk about shopping a lot in your diary.
Teanna: I do. I ummm ... I dunno! I just thought what kind of theme did I want to have -- what goes with me, what I like .. and I just pick from there. I have the cop.
Snowman: Do you have certain places where you go shopping at?
Teanna: There's a couple of places in Hollywood that I go to. One of the stores is called Foreplay. I always go there and the other one is Trashy Lingerie.
Snowman: Trashy Fashions?
Teanna: Trashy Lingerie. And that place ... they have really good stuff. They put all your costumes together, but they're pretty expensive. But usually I do all my costumes on my own. I sew -- I put rhinestone on and all that.
Snowman: Really?
Teanna: I put all my costumes together. Like my wedding dress. I put it all together.
Snowman: So you make stuff yourself from a pattern?
Teanna: I'm very creative.
Snowman: Do you actually buy material?
Teanna: I buy material and then I buy rhinestone, I buy sequins, and stuff. I put it all together.
Snowman: That's cool!
Teanna: I made this bouquet that I use. I made that. I go to like Michael's. I bought the flowers and stuff and put it together.
Snowman: That's awesome.
Teanna: Yeah. I'm very creative when it comes to that stuff. Like with my wedding dress I wanna make it the way I want it so that way it's easier for me to take it off, you know? But if it goes somewhere else, and they'll gonna do it, it's gonna cost a lot of money and probably not what I wanted. Because I've done that before. I go to places and say "OK, this is what I want" and I told them exactly what I wanted and they come out and it doesn't look [like] what I wanted.
Snowman: Yeah, and I'm sure it's expensive. I know those custom outfits are high.
Teanna: And it wastes a lot of money. That one cop outfit that I got, custom made, it was like $250. I didn't even use that damm thing! (*laughs*)
Snowman: Right.
(* break so that Teanna can speak to come fans *)
Snowman: Ok, we're back on. Well I gotta ask you about this, just real quick. It's something we could spend a lot of time on, but I want to get it in. You know, with the new HIV scare, with Darren James and Laura Roxx, how do you feel about that? Should porn go all condom or should we have more government regulation? What's your take on it?
Teanna: What's my take on it? I mean, to be honest with you, I just think that all companies ... any girls that wanna do pornos have to use condoms. I don't care who they are. I mean, this is the sex business you know? You don't know what other people have. You know? Yeah, you can get the test done today and it come out positive -- oh I'm sorry not positive --
Snowman: Negative?
Teanna: ... Negative ... but then, tomorrow or the next day, that person might fuck somebody, you don't know who, but the test is just current for thirty days. You know, that person might have something already and then you went and worked with that person not wearing condom. You know, you could get something already. You never know. So you should always wear condoms. I don't care who you are. It's just safe, you know? And if everyone else, you wear condoms, that would not happen today.
Snowman: It's quite possible. OK.
Teanna: I just feel bad for them. They should be smarter than that. I mean, they're all adult. You know, they're doing ... they're in the porn business ... they should know better than that. But see, that's what I'm talking about. A lot of them, they don't care about themselves. They just let it go -- they just do it. They don't even think about --
Snowman: You got to respect yourself.
Teanna: Yeah!
Snowman: I think that's the key, especially in a business like this. Alright. I have a few interesting "if" questions for you.
Teanna: If I was a woman? I mean, if I was a man? (*laughs*)
Snowman: No, no. I always ask a few of these. These are some unusual ones. If you could have won a single thing that you tried for in your lifetime, but didn't win, what would it be?
Teanna: Win? A heart! (*laughs* and ponders ...)
Snowman: Like, if you could have won a single thing in your life, that you tried to, but you didn't actually win it, you know like a contest, or something like that, what would it be?
Teanna: That's something I want to win but I ? ...
Snowman: Well, like you entered a contest, or some sort of promotion, and tried to win --
Teanna: But I didn't win?
Snowman: ... but you didn't win ...
Teanna: What would it be? I don't know! I never win anything in my life.
Snowman: But do you try?
Teanna: I try!
Snowman: So what's the thing that you wanted to win the most?
Teanna: I don't have any luck. I didn't win. I mean, I go to amateur night one time. Like amateur contest? I wanted to get first place. I never get first place, I always get second.
Snowman: Was it like for dancing?
Teanna: Umm Umm. That's one thing. I always get second. Maybe one time I did win first place and that's it.
Snowman: OK. If you had to name the one thing that repeatedly makes you most angry, what would it be?
Teanna: (*laughs*) One thing?
Snowman: One thing that keeps making you angry?
Teanna: Liar! (*laughs*)
Snowman: Liars? (*laughs*)
Teanna: Yeah. Liars, dishonest ...
Snowman: Dishonest people?
Teanna: Umm Umm.
Snowman: OK. If you could write letters to only one person for the rest of your life, who would receive them?
Teanna: Probably my kids.
Snowman: Do you have kids right now?
Teanna: No, I said it would probably be my kids.
Snowman: If you had kids?
Teanna: I'm talking about if I had kids.
Snowman: But right now, you don't have kids right? So who would it be assuming you don't have kids?
Teanna: Ummmm. I would say, family, parents.
Snowman: But it can only be one person.
Teanna: One person? One person? That's not fair.
Snowman: That's why it's a hard question.
Teanna: It's gotta be my ... my lover.
Snowman: You're lover? Not your parents?
Teanna: I said my parents already!
Snowman: But, that's two! I mean you'd have to pick one.
Teanna: OK, if I had to pick one, it would have to be ... if I could write letters, letme see ... I would say to my sister.
Snowman: Your sister?
Teanna: Umm Umm. One. I have one sister. I would probably be like, write to her.
Snowman: OK
Teanna: Not my parents. My parents are not very open minded. I can't tell them anything. (*laughs*) So I probably won't ...
Snowman: OK. If you could gain back all the hours you spent in your life doing a certain thing, what would it be?
Teanna: Ummmmm. What I'm doing now. (*laughs*) I don't know!
Snowman: Well, this is productive for you. I would think it would probably means like something that you spent a lot of time on but maybe you didn't feel it was worth it and you wish you could get all that time back.
Teanna: Oh well ... uhhhh ... my ex boyfriend. (*laughs*)
Snowman: (*laughs) How long did you date? How long of a relationship was it?
Teanna: Three years. And I wish I took all that time back.
Snowman: And it didn't work out?
Teanna: No. I waste my time. My three years. And that's the honest truth.
Snowman: OK. Alright. Well you do have a website. What's the address of your website?
Teanna: That address of website is teannakailive.com. It's T-E-A-N-N-A-K-A-I-L-I-V-E dot com.
Snowman: And is that something you participate in?
Teanna: Ummmm I used to have live chat on there once a month or twice a month ... ummm interactive with my fans. But I haven't done that for awhile, but I'm gonna get back to that where I can interact with my fans more often. Probably once a month or something. That's why I called it "Teanna Kai Live" because I used to have it live. So ...
Snowman: OK. Anything else that Asian Porno Hottie readers should know about coming up that involves you?
Teanna: Ummmm I don't know. Just check out my website. (*laughs*)
Snowman: All the news is on there?
Teanna: Everything is on there. All the Teanna Kai news. It tells you were I'm gonna be at and what I do and things like that.
Snowman: And where are you going to be? Do you know where you are going to be dancing next?
Teanna: I'm going to travel to Los Angeles. I'm gonna stay ... I'm going to be a feature there for awhile. At least a month or two months.
Snowman: Do you know which club?
Teanna: Yes. Spearmint Rhino.
Snowman: OK
Teanna: The Spearmint Rhino. Actually, they do have a website there too. And then at the end of May I will be going to Crazy Horse in San Francisco. I'll be featuring over there.
Teanna's Assistant: And the L.A. Erotica Show.
Snowman: OK.
Teanna: And the L.A. Erotica Show. They have that once a year in LA.
Snowman: One of my readers wanted to know, are you planning on going back east anytime soon?
Teanna: I just got back from there! I've been traveling there since January.
Snowman: Back east?
Teanna's Assistant: (*helps Teanna recall some of cities in the background*)
Teanna: East Coast. Yeah, I was over there ... like Rhode Island, Chicago, Virginia, Ohio, Fort Lauderdale, Little Rock Arkansaw.
Teanna's Assistant: All in the last four or five months.
Snowman: What can I say? He must have missed you. (*laughs*) So, thanks very much for chatting with us today and you know, you're always welcome to come by the website and participate if you get online and post messages. Everybody would love to see you. One of the readers, they wanted me to "thank you for sharing your beauty and talent with us."
Teanna: Oh!
Snowman: He says, "you rock!"
Teanna: Yeah! Teanna Kai rocks! (*laughs*)
Snowman: Any last words?
Teanna: Nope, thanks to everybody! (*blow kiss*)
Snowman: Alright. Thank you.
