    SRR Community Posting Guidelines

    (last updated 03.29.16)

I like to keep rules to minimum in the community, but there are a few posting guidelines that everyone must follow to insure everyone's enjoyment:

    1. No commercial spam postings. Unsolicited advertisements will be promptly deleted. New users who post spam across multiple message boards will be immediately banned from the forum. Don't waste your time and mine. Also see #11 regarding the use of affiliate link codes in posts.

    2. Flames and other types of rude messages or personal attacks are not permitted here. This does not mean you are not encouraged to speak your mind. It is perfectly OK to disagree with someone or post an alternative viewpoint. Everyone is encouraged to post their feelings on whatever the topic at hand is. However, be sure to do so in a civil and respectful manner. Over the past few years this board has been remarkable friendly and courteous, and I would very much like it to stay that way, even as it grows in popularity.

    3. Adult industry members are welcome and encouraged to participate here. However, if you working in the adult industry in any capacity, please be honest about who you are and who you are working for. This community is very civil and friendly. There is no need to mislead everyone. When industry members participate here in a responsible way it is a "win-win" situation for everyone.

    4. Message threads instigated by industry insiders masquerading as porn fans designed to promote their product are not welcome. I consider these types of messages worse than regular commercial spam due to the deception involved. I do not condone fake message threads or anything else that diminishes the integrity of the discussions. Also, see item six.

    5. If you are a member of the adult industry, please do not use the message areas only to promote yourself or your product. The purpose of the forum is intelligent conversation, not free advertising. Excessive self promotion dilutes the honesty, usefulness, and overall quality of the discussion threads. Furthermore, it is entirely unnecessary and in fact often backfires by turning off many of the fans who are your prospective customers. Members of this community can easily tell the difference between industry insiders who are making a genuine effort to participate in a meaningful way and those who are simply shilling. The best way to build loyal fans and create networking opportunities is simply to participate normally in the discussion threads by offering your opinion, help or insider insight.

You may post a link to your personal or commercial website in your XenForo user profile. In addition, there is also space to link to two blogs, Twitter and several instant messenger clients. If you add your IM screen names, they will be hot linked in the header everytime you post a message. Also, if you add your Twitter name, your latest "tweets" will appear in your User Profile here. In addition, I will also add your company name or other appropriate custom user title under your name. However, if you link to your site in the forum, please create a reciprocal link on your site. Please do not post commercial links in your signature. Forum users can view your profile at anytime for this information. You can always access your user profile via the "User CP" link at the top upper right of the blue menu bar ribbon that appears near the top of every page. "CP" stands for control panel by the way.

If you are affiliated with an adult studio and want to post about new releases or other studio news on the forum, please place SRR on your DVD screener list. Contact me at snowman872 at gmail dot com for the shipping address. Please note that I regularly post press releases for studios in dedicated message threads for studios that support the community by sending screeners or in some other fashion. Producers and adult webmasters who participate here and receive valuable exposure, feedback and traffic should have an affiliate program that I can join. Otherwise, it is expected that you purchase advertising or support the website or Blue Syren in some other fashion. Business is a two way street.

Advertising on SRR and APH is available at a reasonable cost. For information on advertising opportunities, cross-promotions or reviews, read the "About" page and send an e-mail to snowman872 at gmail dot com. If it appears that you are using the forum only to get free advertising, you may be banned from the community. As noted above, new users that register and immediately begin spamming the forum about their commercial website will almost certainly be banned. Again, the forum is for discussion, not free advertising.

    6. Multiple accounts are not permitted. Sock puppets are especially frowned upon. This community uses multiple methods to detect these type of shenanigans. Upon discovery, the original account and multiple identities may be deleted. If you have a legitimate need for a second account here, please contact me in advance to discuss the situation.

    7. Please do not post any photos on the forum. This includes inline photographs "hot linked" from other sites. If you want to share a image, you can post a text link to it that is hosted on another site. As stated in the TOS, content that violates the copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights of any other person is prohibited. Members who do not follow this rule will lose posting privileges. Thank you for your cooperation!

If you are a photographer who wishes to share their own content in the gallery or forum, please contact me.

    8. In the "Swap Meet" message board, please do not post ads or links offering bootleg or pirated versions of adult movies. If you wish to engage in these activities please take it to private e-mail. Support that studios that produce the porn you enjoy, not the pirates who steal from them! Also the "Swap Meet" board is intended for private parties to buy, sell and trade items that may be of interest to readers here. It is not a place for you to advertise your commercial business.

    9. "File sharing" links to download movies or scenes are not permitted in this community unless it is a trailer or some other promotional clip offered with the blessing of the producer. Everyone in the adult entertainment industry, including the starlets, studios and retailers depend on porn fans to purchase the movies or website content that we enjoy. Plus, there are a whole lot of other people out there who also directly benefit from adult productions such as make-up artists, photographers, caterers, graphic artists, editors, replicators and more. Whether you realize it or not, it costs a substantial amount of money and entails substantial economic and legal risks to produce adult materials. If nobody can earn a decent living because everyone is engaging in illegal file swapping, the industry will suffer and many of your favorite studios may forced out of business. The "I don't buy porn, but I love watching it" attitude will devastate the industry. If you are a true porn fan, please support your favorite stars, directors, and producers by purchasing their offerings when you can. For information and discussion on recent industry woes, check out these threads: 2015-2016, 2013.

    10. The main purpose of the forum is intelligent discussion about porn, however given that porn is a visual art, occasional posts that point to free photo galleries on the net may be appropriate. However, I do not think it is desirable to have thousands of one post threads with links to random photo galleries. If you post about a photo gallery, please try to post some comments about it as well to help generate follow up discussion. If the gallery features a porn starlet who has a "Pipeline" type discussion thread, please post the gallery there. If the gallery is a random, unknown girl, please use this "catch all" message thread:

    Pics Section (General Message Board)

Most Asian starlets have their own message threads on the APH message board where photo galleries featuring them can be posted. There is also a catch-all picture gallery thread for other Asian girls that may pop up.

The best way to find threads about a particular starlet, is to search for the starlet's name using XenForo's excellent search feature. It can be accessed toward the right side of each page.

    11. Links with affiliate codes (other than SRR's) are not permitted. This is considered a form of commercial spamming. SRR is a free community that is supported by members clicking on my own shopping links. If your post contains links containing your own affiliate codes, your account may be banned and I will edit the links to my own codes. If your purpose in posting here is to generate affiliate revenue for yourself, you are wasting your time.

When posting helpful links to adult movies, please try to find the title at one of SRR's retail partners. I may edit references to movies and other products to include shopping links so that they help support the costs to operate this site. SRR's current retail partners include: Adult DVD Marketplace, Adult Video Universe, Amazon.com, Gamelink and Videobox.

    12. On the "Reviews" message board, movie and scene reviews are welcome and encouraged. The reviews may be for new releases, catalog titles or golden oldies. You may also review scenes that are available on porn web sites. Visitors are interested in all of them. Also, please note I am seeking thoughtful reviews that consider the good and bad points of the movie or scene. No special format for the reviews is required. Also, I don't care if the review is favorable or not in the end analysis so long as it is fair. Visitors to the site want to know about movies and scenes to search out as well as those to avoid. If you enjoy reviewing and wish to write reviews for the site on a regular basis, I can supply you with a free, steady stream of new releases in your mailbox from many of the top adult studios. See this thread for more information.

And now for some legalese! By posting a review, you understand and agree that by submitting your review to the community, you will be assigning a non-exclusive transferable copyright to SRR and related entities. You agree to assign all copyrights to your review and understand and agree that all reviews become the property of SRR which may use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute and display such content throughout the world in any media.

Said assignment is royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable. You grant SRR and its affiliates and sub licensees the right to use the name that you submit in connection with such content, if they choose. You represent and warrant that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the content that you submit. You understand and agree that there is no financial compensation for submitting reviews and submitting a review does not guarantee that it will be published.

    13. Please note that the forum permits you to edit your messages only for a limited about of time (currently 60 minutes). The primary purpose of this is to permit you to clarify your viewpoint, fix typos or revise a message before others react to it. Once other members post replies to your message and a thread develops related to it, in my view it is not desirable to permit members the ability to change the substantive content. This disrupts the flow of conversation and can make it difficult to even understand the thread if subsequent posters do not use the quote feature.

    14. Please remember that any information disclosed on the forum becomes public information and the property of this site. You should exercise caution when deciding to disclose any and all personal information. Also, choose your screen name on the forum carefully! If you are concerned that others may discover your interest in adult entertainment use a unique screen name that is not easy to trace back to you. Requests to remove user accounts and messages or photos posted on the forum will not be honored. This includes porn stars who decide to leave the sex industry. SRR further suggests that any email communication you may have with individuals that you meet through the use of the chat room or message forum be conducted through anonymous email accounts such Gmail. For more information on this, please see this thread on the 411/911 board.

    15. The following guidelines relate to posting etiquette issues:

    a. Please do not quote excessively. As a general rule of thumb, the length of your quote should not exceed the length of your new contribution to the thread. In other words, please do not quote 100 lines from a prior message and then write something short like, "I agree." This is highly annoying to other readers, clutters up the threads with duplicate content, wastes server space, slows down the system and makes it difficult to print out a thread. Also, if you are replying to the post direct above, it often is unnecessary to quote at all. Posts with excessive quoting will be pruned back by myself and members who continuously violate this guideline may find their posting privileges restricted.

    b. Please do not "bump" threads. Bumping threads occur when a member posts a new short message of little or no value in a thread simply as an artificial way to "bump" it to the top at the discussion board as if it were an hot thread. Often a member will simply post "bump" in the new message however it has more subtle variants. For instance, a member may post, "Has anyone heard anything new about Starlet X?" In reality, this post adds nothing of value to the thread. It can be assumed that if there was anything new to post about Starlet X someone would add it without being reminded. "Bumps" annoy readers who return to the forum and expect threads marked as having new messages to actually have new information in them. Don't do it!

For further discussion about forum etiquette issues, please see this thread in the 411/911 board.

    16. Note that I've created the following board on the forum: Suggestion Box, 411/911 (info and help) and What's New. It's a good idea for all active members to read and participate in these areas regularly to keep up on the latest system news and get the most out of the community.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your account being temporarily restricted (using XenForo's warning system) or banned from the community. If you are unsure whether something you wish to do violates these rules, please feel free to discuss the matter with me in advance via a PM or e-mail. If your account has been restricted or banned and you feel this was in error or a misunderstanding has occurred, please contact me via a PM or EM.

These guidelines are updated from time to time as necessary. Please review them at least once a month if you are an active member of the board.

Thanks in advance for everyone's anticipated cooperation. I hope you enjoy the community!

I updated the Community Posting Guidelines this morning.

Most of the changes related to adult insiders who participate here. I added additional clarification on my expectations and policies regarding self-promotion. All adult industry members who participate on the community should read these guidelines and pay special attention to items 4, 5, 6, 7 and 14 since issues continue to arise regularly under these topics. Most of the time, when I revise or add to the guidelines, it is in response to specific situations have have occurred on the forum.

Please feel free to contact me about the guidelines if you have any questions.

regarding the contact to the adult industry:
I have no real contact at all, with the exception of a test casting 10 years ago in NL, that was (hopefully) destroyed.
And some girlfriends played in dutch/danish porn movies, but all have quitted the industry years ago. If I sometimes warmly recommend these movies, this is not because of a financial gain, but because I still enjoy them.

Ive seen quite a lot of strange reviews in other porn forums I dont want to name here. They praised DVDs to the limit - mostly big labels - and when you looked at the DVD, the content was very disappointing !!!
Ive also have the suspicion, that some PR marketing people are shrouding their real identity on some porn forums. This isnt very clever, because if more and more customers are disappointed by the reviews, they dont read it any longer.

I no longer read any german porn mags, because 100% of the reviews are written by people from the industry, but most of them are presented, as if they are written by porn fans.

Ah yes, the old SOCK PUPPET problem! It's not limited to the porn industry. Check out this article in the New York Times:

The Hand That Controls the Sock Puppet Could Get Slapped

I've always felt it was important for reviews to be honest precisely because of the reasons you mention above. This site started as a pure review site without a forum, and the way I saw it, if people did not trust what I was writing, I would have no readers. Some studios were unhappy that I didn't always write glowing reviews and a few took me off their screener lists (Vivid, DVSX), but a greater number of them told me they appreciated the honest feedback and felt it was valuable. As far as fans go, I haven't met one yet who wanted a fake review.

I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I added more language to #01 and #11 regarding commercial spam and the use of affiliate links in posts.

Would Be Spammers take note: If you sign up with the intent to spam the forum with advertisements or your own affiliate links you are wasting your time. I monitor the forum on a continuous basis. Even if you try to be clever and disguise your spam I will see through it and the posts will be removed or edited as appropriate. The chances are, your posts will never even be seen by forum members before this happens. In other words, move along to some other forum or blog where the Admin is asleep at the wheel. There's nothing for you here.

That's a good point Ginko. I'll add something about that under the Miscellaneous section soon. Also, the two "Great ID" threads that you mention are pinned to the top of the forums so that people can find them easily.
