Private superstar Lea De Mae hospitalized for brain cancer

Czech porn star Lea De Mae, who most often appeared in features for Private has been hospitalized in Europe for a tumor that is reported to be very close to her brain. Doctors were only able to remove part of the tumor due to it's position. A new MRI is scheduled for today and next month to chart the progress of the tumor and treatment (radiation and chemo). If further medical treatment is required, the cost might exceed $150,000.

Private alledgedly has declined to help Lea. According to AdultFYI, Private is quoted as saying, "She's just a (one) girl - there are stars enough." AdultFYI estimates that Lea earned Private in excess of $30,000,000 and stated that Private sells 70,000 DVD, videos and magazines every week in thirty-five countries.

In the meantime, Larry Flint of Hustler USA has reportedly offered to help with the medical treatments.

Wow...this is really shocking news. She's been one of my faves for awhile now. A beautiful woman for sure. :(

I wish I could help her out with the bill, but I have hard enough time getting by myself. And what the hell is Private thinking?? Not going to help her? Man, what a bunch of flakes. My thoughts go out to her right now...I really do hope she pulls through all right; even if she doesn't do porn afterwards. As long as she's doing well and cancer-free. That's what matters most.

I don't know if she did earn Private $30,000,000, but if that is the case, it seems to me Private should at least chip in to assist with the her medical care. $150,000 is about 5% of that amount. It would be the right thing to do.

On the other hand, I do think she should have been more responsible and obtained health insurance. This goes for all self employed people in the industry, but especially talent.

If talent cannot get health insurance because health providers reject them due the risk of HIV transmission and other STDs, then perhaps it is time for a union or some sort of industry association where group health benefits can be secured.

I don't care if she earned them 30 million dollars or 10 dollars, they have the capacity to help her immensely, and they're turning away. I mean, really, that's kinda low on their part.

This is from an update posted 11.19.04. She's reported to be very weak.

Industry donors to her medical fund include director Frank Thring, starlet Katja Kassin, male talent Francesco Malcolm, talent Driese Breyne, producer Gianni Sardella. Several other fan donors are posted on the site as well.

To all of you who are carrying Lea in your hearts

First of all, I would like to thank you very much on behalf of Lea and myself for your help!

Every day, I read your messages and best wishes to Lea and I can say that what I see in her eyes is the indescribable words of thanks and even a far more craving and strength to fight for her life. And for this, we owe all of you.

For those of you who would like to know the whole process of her serious illness, I dare to write this short account.

My sister (Lea De Mae, to you) had suffered from big headaches for a long time and therefore she was treated for the blockage of her neck-spinal. The doctors treated her by prescribing mostly analgesics. They prescribed stronger and stronger analgesics but without any effect.

This poor situation reached the point where Lea started to suffer from bad vision (her eyes became bad) and she also started to barely feel the left side of her body.
When the pain was completely unbearable and she couldn't stand any more on her own legs, the doctors sent her for a CT (Computer Tomography) examination - which revealed a brain tumour.

The situation was seriously bad so Lea had to immediately undergo surgery. The entire operation was performed by famous Professor Dr. Benes in the Military Hospital in Stresovice in Prague. Dr. Benes has carried out an unbelievably successful and clear operation. He succeeded in removing all of the tumour except for one small piece which had already infiltrated into the brain, because by removing this small piece, it would have caused great danger to main vital and health functions.

A few days after operation, Lea was partially paralyzed on her left side, but after that, her condition started to improve and Lea was feeling better and better on both physical and psychological sides. As Lea was convalescing fast, we were lucky and enjoyed this.

And then, the shock came! The histological examination of the removed tumour revealed the worst form of brain cancer that can exist. Accordingly, with this bad news Lea's condition went again down with the same symptoms before the surgery. Lea immediately underwent radiotherapy and after a 2 weeks problem with the insurance company, also chemotherapy.

Now, we are awaiting to see how the tumour will respond to this therapy and we are trying to find, in case of need, any alternative treatment, which will save her life or at least make it longer.

I apologize that I cannot be in touch with you every day and inform you about Lea's current situation, but at this time, I devote all the time to my sister and I promise that if any change will occur, I will inform you.

Finally, I would like to give a big special thanks to Chris Danneffel, Monica Sweetheart and Oldrich Widman; they are all great standbys for my sister and all my family.

In your earlier posting, you mentioned that $150,000 was 5% of $30 million dollars ($30,000,000). Actually, I just thought about that - in fact it's only one half of one per cent!

Eek ... actually you are right Victor! That makes Private's indifference even more shocking. Plus, if they really are moving 70,000 discs, videos and magazines a month -- that's about $700,000 in cash flow each week or $36,400,000 a year assuming an average wholesale price of $10 each.

Thanks for catching that error and for all the updated information on Lea. I do hope she gets well soon.
