Why do they continue to tax things that only hurt the middle class and poor?

Do they think about what they are doing? I don't believe they do.

Why not tax items the wealthy buy? That would make much more sense.

Wealthy people don't consume porn?

Tax increase proposals that target a specific type of speech such as adult entertainment are usually Unconstitutional under the First Amendment. It is unlikely that bill will pass.

To solve the $40 billion deficit here in California, the most recent proposal included a $0.12 gas tax hike (it's already $0.25 or so), doubling of vehicle license fees, chopping child tax credits in half and a $0.01 sales tax increase. Talk about outrageous!

I really don't care what they do.

Hmmmm I don't think so.

Also, you're the one who implied wealthy people don't buy porn, so that's sort of a lame response.

FYI, at the present time, 22% of all visitors to this website have household incomes over $100,000.

I never said they don't buy porn. But, adding a tax to downloading porn will not hurt the wealthy.

Also, "no?" Taxes are illegal.

New York has had taxation issues for decades and is continuously getting worse. It has been loosing population and businesses for years because of its taxation policy. Ever year the bill for social programs increase, population decreases and taxes have to be increased it is a vicious downward spiral. The biggest problem NY has is that it is loosing its retirees, people with life long savings, to the South.

NY is going to tax all digital media including Netflix type of sites. Politicians have been eyeing taxing the internet for years for its tax potential. And why not? If people have the time for frivolous things like the internet they deserve to be taxed and taxed hard.

What New York needs to do is call up the National Guard to seal its borders. As residence leave the state they can have them forfeit all there net worth to the government. Take that Florida. Every penny New Yorkers earned has been a result of the benevolent government of “the State”. You can’t take it with you when you die and you should not be able to take it with you when you bail for the South.

Wise up New York just confiscate everyone’s bank accounts and be done with it. Why bleed people to death slowly.

i was going to make a joke about a poll tax which traditional is a set amount levied on all adults it killed PM Thatcher`S government. As opposed to a pole tax on strippers to my horror Texas already tried it so now its not funny maybe they could try a tea tax that worked out well the last time

I have it on good authority that Gov. David Paterson does not watch porn and has never watched porn.

I was born in NY, raised in NY, educated in NY (can’t you tell), hopefully will not die in New York but will get buried there. I bought my plot in a nice Catholic cemetery thinking the Catholics will never go broke so the cemetery will never be abandoned (I wonder). I don’t know if New York has a pole tax but I need to check to see if they have a hole tax. Makes sense that they would.
