How Do I Resize Photos for Posting on the Forum?

If your pictures are too big, there are many options for resizing them. Some solutions are web based, others are small software utilities.

Picnik lets you do so much more than just resize. And it's a fun photo editor to use!

If you have Windows XP, Microsoft publishes a "PowerToy" for this purpose.

I personally use this one all the time for fast resizing related to this forum: VSO Image Resizer. It's free for personal use.

Also, a good size for posting on the forum is 640x480 (in the albums) or 320x240 (in posts). Or if your are shooting at full resolution with your digital camera try reducing it to 15-25% (depending on how many megapixels you have). They should come out a reasonable size in most cases. You should aim for a photo that is big enough to see the details, but still loads fast, isn't too many bytes (think 40,000 to 100,000) and doesn't require a lot of scrolling.
