DVD SPECIFIC COMMENTS

As far as DVDs extras go, Sodomania... and Then Some is a pretty basic package.  The menu contains four choices:  play, chapter menu, photo gallery, and an Elegant Angel advertisement ("How hot does it get...").  The chapter menu, with mini moving clips, is a nice feature, permitting the viewer to jump to the scene of their choice.  The photo gallery only contains ten pictures.  All the features worked as expected on my Sony stand alone DVD player (model 560). 

The picture quality for the disc ranged from fair to good.  The source material here is more than five years old, so the digital transfer appears more grainy than recent releases.  The sound quality is good.  

CONCLUSION

This DVD is a good introduction to the early Sodomania installments.  I saw some of these scenes when the tapes were released, but that was more than five years ago.  Viewing them again, I was impressed with the attention given to the set up for each of the plotted scenes.  The stories and themes may not be very original, but Patrick Collins uses them effectively here.  The casting is excellent as well.  As a result, these scenes are more involving than many unscripted all sex gonzo features.  Also, this disc is quite a generous collection, containing nine scenes for two hours and eighteen minutes of solid porn.

It should also be noted that although these scenes were state of the art raincoater porn when they were released, the porn envelope has been pushed forward.  There's plenty of nasty sex, but the performances tends to be tamer and shorter than some of the harder gonzo titles today.  This is especially true with regard to the anal sequences.
