DVD SPECIFIC COMMENTS

All the expected features are here, but some notable extras.  The chapter menu is nicely done.  As usual on high quality discs, it permits the viewer to jump to the scene of their choice.  What's nifty here is that each chapter also contains submenus that let you go precisely to different types of sex within the scene.  The choices here were oral, straight, anal and climax.  This is a good feature for strokers on repeated viewings who are not interested in watching the scene from start to finish. 

Also, the DVD contains one of my favorite extras, an audio commentary track.  I think most porn fans like to get the inside scoop on the production of a movie and their favorite starlets.  On this disc, Seymore alone provides the commentary.  I enjoyed listening to what Seymore had to say, but I felt there was room for improvement on future discs.  First, Seymore seemed a little stiff, especially when compared to his normal onscreen persona.  At times, it seemed like he was reading from his notes.  Also, Seymore's commentary was far too sporadic.  For maybe five minutes at a time, he didn't say anything.  Then he might speak for twenty seconds.  Then another five minutes of silence.  Hopefully he will become more comfortable doing commentary in the future and be a little more talkative.  It would also be great if at least some of the girls joined him on future discs.

There is also a well done photo gallery with music, multiple trailers for other Seymore movies, and some advertisements for other Seymore offerings. 

The digital transfer was generally good.  I was pleased with the picture quality.  Some brief glitches from the aging source tape were seen at times. Audio was fine, except for the difficulties described below on my computer.

The disc played fine on my home Sony DVD player, however, under Windows XP and PowerDVD 4.0, my computer DVD-ROM drive had some audio playback difficulties.  It seemed liked a audio buffer problem, or only intermittent portions of the audio were "tracking" properly.  The result was a broken up, watery soundtrack on my computer.  Closing all open applications and a clean boot helped, but did not entirely solve the problem.  Also, upon start up, a box pops up and says this disc is "PC friendly" and asks if I would like to install unidentified software.  I was leery of doing this, since software and its purpose were not described, but after having the sound difficulties, I thought I would give it a try.  Unfortunately, this didn't work.  The setup program attempted to install the software but choked on Windows XP with an error message that said "This file system is unsuitable for Windows and MS-DOS programs."  This is probably an incompatibility with XP hard drives that have converted to the NTFS file structure (as opposed to the older and slower FAT system).  Although my XP installation is relatively recent and this is a new version of PowerDVD, I have not experienced the audio problems with other discs, including another Seymore discs such as "How Do you Like This Tushy Seymore? - Volume 1."  Again, these problems did not occur on my Sony standalone player, just the computer.  The computer DVD drive is a Hitachi GD-7500.

CONCLUSION

If you're a Seymore fan, you already know this is one of his stronger titles.  If you're don't know much Seymore, this is a great place to start.  It's a fine example of Seymore's explicit, gonzo style with two hot and nasty group scenes. 

Seymore films often feature anal sex, and there's plenty of it here.  It's pretty remarkable that every girl in both group scenes takes it up the ass -- that's seven anal angels right there.  AVN picked scene number scene two as "best group sex scene of the year" but I'm going to break with conventional wisdom, and pick the third scene as the best of the bunch.  In my view, the four newbies from Texas in scene two really can't match the screen presence of Shanna McCullough and Alex Dane, whose consistently hot performances are underappreciated.  The surprise birthday party setup in scene three is also much more interesting than the Internet shoot setup in scene two and tends to draw the viewer into the action.  Finally, I dare say that Ron Jeremy brings something to the table here.  He's not pretty to look at, but he knows a thing or two about making great raincoat scenes. 

My major gripe about Gluetus to the Maxiumus is the cliffhanger ending in the final scene.  Seymore should have used the re-release of this movie on DVD as an opportunity to correct this major porn blunder.  It's just wrong to tease porn viewers in this way.  Porn producers should entice viewers to watch future releases with trailers or dream up something more creative.  When I originally rented this movie years ago, I did so because I wanted to see Taylor Hayes' scene.  Taylor didn't disappoint me.   What's here of her performance is great stuff, but needless to say, I wanted to see the whole enchilada, not half of it.

Second Opinion? 

Interestingly, other opinions for this one are all over the map.  Some reviewers loved this movie, others hated it.  This feature also did well at the AVN awards in 1998, winning awards in two major categories (see below for more information). 

Roger Pipe was very favorable about this disc and says it is "easily the best" Seymore DVD.  He says every scene is "hot" and the transfer and extras are "good." 

Imperator gave this movie the thumbs down was as much enthusiasm as Rog gave it the thumbs up.  Imperator calls Seymore "talent less" and "incompetent" and the "biggest waster of resources ever."  He says the only watchable scene is the one with Jordan McKnight.  He gives it a rating of 0.95 on a scale of 1 to 4. 

Endorphin was rather harsh also, but it seemed related to his aversion to raincoater stunts such as A2M.  He noted there is plenty of sex and enthusiasm, but says this movie "left a bad taste in my mouth."  He also said the quality is "crappy."  Rating:  2 out of 5 stars.

Last, but not least, Astroknight liked it a lot.  He says Seymore "works the gonzo format like a true master."  Astro rates the sex "extremely hot" and says the transfer to DVD is good.  Rating:  4 out of 5 stars.

This feature won the AVN award for Best Anal Sex Themed Video in 1997.  Scene #02 also (with Alyssa, Holli, Katie and Shay) won the AVN award of the year for Best Group Sex Scene.
